For the midlife woman, all the symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause can be challenging.
However, there is something else that happens as you get older. Your body changes in other ways too and it does its best to give you messages.
This morning, while cleaning the toilet, I had a severe back spasm….yeah…I know! I wish I could say I was having wild sex and swinging of the chandelier when it happened….. But no! I wish! Ha Ha!!
I am now in a lot of pain and can hardly move. It is not the first time this has happened. It has happened to me quite a few times over the past 20 years. I actually have 3 compressed discs in the lumbar region of my spine. I thought I had it under control with doing yoga, keeping my core strong and staying fit with walking, cycling and swimming. I even have a back inverter and I hang upside down for a few minutes per day. It has mainly kept my back in check….but not today!
Anyway….as I was lying supine in my bed with a heat pack, I got to wondering what this pain is trying to tell me.
I came up with the answer…and it is the same answer as any other time I have had a back spasm, had a bad case of the flu or became ill in some way.
The message is……I need to SLOW DOWN and REST. My body is telling me that I have been pushing myself too much.
I find slowing down very challenging. My husband’s nick name for me is ‘tear arse’! I guess that says it all.
With a back spasm…I have no choice but to slow down….and that is when I know I need to surrender to it. Just let go!
I will keep this short and sweet because I need to get off this chair and go and lie down again. Thankfully I found a physio who is open today (being a public holiday). I will see her later….I can’t wait to be able to move again.
So what are your aches and pains saying to you? If you go into yourself, meditate on it and listen intently…..what is your body telling you? What is it you need for yourself?
